Charitable Gift Annuities Are Excellent Addition to Your Philanthropic Plan

Photo of Linda Wells Davey The first person Linda Wells Davey '53 met as a new student at the University of Rochester was Bruce Davey '51. That chance meeting in the early 1950s eventually led to a 44-year marriage, two children, and two grandchildren. She says, "Bruce loved the University. A native Rochesterian, he played basketball, was a fraternity member, and was active as an alumnus." She adds, "All in all, he was a really nice guy who died too young from cancer."

Her experiences at the University of Rochester, Linda says, directed and shaped her life. In gratitude, Linda has established several charitable gift annuities that will, upon her passing, be an important addition to the Davey Award established in 1997 in memory of Bruce. The endowment fund makes an annual award to a leading cancer researcher at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center.

She explains that a charitable gift annuity is an excellent addition to a comprehensive philanthropic plan. "The guaranteed annuity rate is a benefit," she says, "and you can afford to give even more during your lifetime, which is something that mattered to me."

Linda concludes, "The University of Rochester is very important to me ... and it has remained a major part of my life through the years." As Rochester strives to make the world "ever better," Linda's legacy gift helps ensure that future generations benefit from lifesaving research in Bruce's memory.
