Campbells Create Trust to Fund Future Scholarship
“Rochester had faith in me, and I’m ever grateful for its impact on my life,” Dr. Campbell said recalling a nurturing faculty who took an interest in each student and taught the importance of a strong doctor/patient relationship. “From my first interview at Rochester, I felt that this was the right place for me and that I was at home.”
For Dr. and Mrs. Campbell supporting the next generation of physicians is an important goal worthy of their philanthropic support. They note that “our communities need excellent physicians, and the School of Medicine and Dentistry does an excellent job of developing those.”
A few years ago the couple established a charitable remainder trust that will one day fund a named scholarship for students at SMD in memory of Dr. Campbell’s parents. “My mother and father instilled in me the values of family, a good education, hard work, and the Golden Rule,” said Dr. Campbell. “I’m grateful for the lessons I learned from them, their encouragement, and their unwavering support. That support included financial assistance, which helped make my education at Rochester possible. I am blessed that now we are able to pay it forward and help others as they embark on their journey in medicine,” said Dr. Campbell.
The trust provided the Campbells a significant tax savings and ensures them income for an established number of years.
